So what should your business-related New Year’s resolution be? Why not resolve to improve your online marketing efforts?
Spending More Time
As a business owner, marketing your business can end up taking a back seat when you get really busy. However, setting aside the time needed to properly manage your marketing efforts will ensure that you’re able to give them the time and consideration that they deserve.
Carving time out of your schedule to regularly update your PPC efforts, survey your SEO needs and assess any social media opportunities can really pay off over the course of the year. Do your best to keep your marketing time intact as the rest of your packed schedule tries to squeeze it out. Remember, simply spending time on your marketing doesn’t ensure that it will be a success, but failing to spend any time on your marketing ensures it won’t be!
Expanding Your Skillset
Throughout the year, opportunities will arise to learn about changes that are coming to different platforms, new marketing options that are becoming available, helpful tools that are rolling out, etc. Plugging into those announcements and learning as much as possible can help you to get an edge over your competition.
Going Bigger This Year
It’s easy to stay in your comfort zone and only invest in marketing that you have seen pay off previously, but sometimes you need to go bigger and take a risk. Building off of the last point, if a new marketing channel become available to you, it may be worth it to get on board with a small investment to test it out once you have thoroughly researched it and developed a sound strategy.
Similarly, if you’ve tried a particular type of search engine marketing before and failed to hit your goals, this may be the time to try it again with some professional help to see if you can yield better results.
Reinvigorating Your Passion
Sometimes it’s not your approach that needs work, sometimes it’s your heart. Everyone can get burnt out, and if marketing strategy isn’t your forte or you have struggled to find success in the past, it can be hard to get really excited and inspired to give it your all. Maybe this year you should try discovering the pieces of online marketing that give you that boost to keep going and then try to carry that zest through the whole year. For some people this can be attending an annual conference or a local networking group to exchange ideas. Find out what keeps your marketing flame going, and embrace it!
