So how can you get your inventor juices flowing while you’re pouring juice into sippy cups? Here are our top tips:
As a Mom your work is never done. There’s always something you need to make, or pick up, or put away, or transfer to/from the car, and the laundry is never ending (...so much laundry). But amidst your overwhelming to-do list and the general chaos of mom-ing, there’s a phenomenal business opportunity. Some of the best inventions, most influential businesses, and greatest contributions to the arts in our time have been from stay-at-home Moms. Hardworking Moms are becoming entrepreneurs more often and contributing more to the landscape of American inventions than ever before. But Moms are doing more than just reinventing ordinary baby products - they’re also making life easier across the spectrum of life’s products.

Everyday I’m lied to, and you are too. These lies may be professional or personal and they can come from anyone in our lives. Most often though, I find that these lies come from the harshest, cruelest person in my life – me. The thing that I have to remember and you do too are that these really are lies. These insidious little things that we are told everyday aren’t true and we shouldn’t listen to them. So the next time you hear any of these, second guess their validity and make the conscious choice to toss them out and move on:
As I was reading my son the beloved children’s book Corduroy recently, I realized there are actually a few key lessons that entrepreneurs can take away from this children’s classic.
For those of you not familiar with the story, it centers around a stuffed bear in a department store. A little girl, Lisa, sees him on the shelf and wants him but her mother says no because he’s missing a button. He then goes on a search to find his lost button, without any luck. Lisa ultimately returns with her own money and buys Corduroy and takes him home. The end. It’s a pretty simple tale, but there’s a lot of hidden wisdom in there. Let’s unpack the story some more… What’s your New Year’s resolution? Is it one of those clichéd resolutions like losing weight, quitting a bad habit, or being happier every day? Will you stick to it? And more importantly, will your resolution benefit your career? I can think of one resolution that ticks all the boxes – it’s important, you can stick to it, and it has business as well as personal implications. The best New Year‘s resolution for 2016 is to get over your fear of asking!
Fear of asking? Yep, you heard me right! I used to have this paralyzing fear of asking for things that could benefit me personally or my business, and as a result I missed out on a lot of opportunities. I was afraid that my request would be met with funny looks, laughter, snide responses, judgement, and perhaps most terrifyingly, a no. I know I’m not the only one out there that is afraid of rejection so I decided to use my own experiences to give some advice. With a full year ahead, you have a golden opportunity right now to get organized and avoid the stress that comes with planning and executing a winning content strategy. Let me introduce you to the idea of an editorial calendar! This is a (you guessed it) calendar, which schedules everything that you plan on publishing in advance – blog posts, infographics, press releases, videos, contests, etc.
Planning your editorial calendar for the year doesn’t have to be nearly as intimidating as it sounds! With some focused effort, you can get this out of the way in January and benefit from it all year long. These 5 steps are integral in developing and maintaining an editorial calendar: |
