The Project
Goal: Create a database of helpful industry-specific templates, guides, and workflows for self-service-minded B2B clients to use.
Challenge: High-quality industry content was needed at scale with a fast turnaround time to align with an upcoming deadline for an adjacent project.
Details: The company had a mountain of blog articles that needed to be transformed into tools for organizations to use at different life stages to overcome operational hurdles, grow strategically, and assess their progress along the way. It made sense to use generative AI here because LLMs are purpose-built for this kind of work!
Outcome: Without the help of an LLM the project would have taken at least 250 hours, but with an LLM it took about 50 hours. This 80% reduction in time translated not only to a far lower project cost for the company but also an ultra-fast turnaround time so they could begin offering the content to clients and prospects sooner to see a return faster. Melding our team’s knowledge and expertise with the efficiency of generative AI was an absolute game changer!
- Quality Content Creates Opportunities
Lean into your organization’s existing assets and identify areas where new assets are needed to help fuel its mission. An LLM can help you build a bridge from what you have now to what you need next.
- AI Makes Us Better
Use generative AI to find and fill the gaps in what you’re already doing, identify your blind spots, and help prioritize what to do next. Use your existing content as the base and then let an LLM springboard your ideas and efforts forward.
- We Shouldn’t Fear These Changes
Where AI prompts fail it’s not typically because the platform isn’t designed to do what we want it to do (although some platforms are certainly better for some kinds of content than others), but because we’re not asking it in a way that’s effective. Aim to understand more about prompt engineering so you can better understand how to get the output you’re seeking, and don’t be afraid of going through several rounds of revisions if you’re not getting what you want. Think of generative AI as a conversation rather than a magical box.
- The Right Time to Start was Yesterday
Start with a free generative AI platform and then once you’ve refined your skills some and have more sophisticated needs that the free model can’t accommodate anymore, consider using a paid version that can keep up with your growing demands.
- Keep People in it Too
Your audience can tell what’s just AI generated noise… the article that ChatGPT spit out for you in under a minute and you posted on the company blog… the manufacturer’s product description that you ran through Copilot to make it sound more interesting… the social media posts written entirely by Gemini. Without a solid initial input of content that a real person wrote for a real audience, the output will be drivel. Start by creating meaningful content that you can be proud of and then use an LLM to spin that into something new that provides value for your audience.
- Keep Your Focus on Innovation, Not Mimicry
There’s no faster way to fail than to chase “what everyone else is doing” without knowing what you hope to accomplish in the process. This will only lead to a waste of resources, especially your most valuable resource – time. Remember, it’s better to stay still than to run full speed in the wrong direction.
